100M Trail Run @ Javelina Jundred 2025! The goal for this race was simply to finish, and that was more than enough to tackle. The race consists of 5 loops around the Pemberton Trail at McDowell Mountain, with the addition of Escondido Trail on the first loop. My pacing strategy from the start was run easy and walk all the hills, with the goal of banking several hours during the first day. I finished the first loop about 30min faster than my first Javelina Race, but I felt pretty wrecked this time. I had followed the 5/3 protocol during my first Javelina Race and felt great after the first loop, so I knew this one was going to be a challenge. Fortunately, the weather was perfect all weekend compared to last when it was HOT and a struggle just to walk from aid station to aid station on loop 2. Around the 48-mile mark, I stubbed my left foot again, re-igniting the injury from my Mogollon Race seven weeks prior that had yet to fully heal up. So I had a choice to make: Was I going to quit at the 50M aid station, or push through? Quitting sucks – You have to live with that for months and months. So I made up my mind to push through, and it paid off. My foot somehow stopped throbbing after about 15 minutes, and I showed myself I could still run. After a quick change of socks at 50M, I continued on about 1 hour ahead of my first Javelina Race pace. From here, it was all mental – My walking is too slow (something I need to work on for sure), which meant I would have to run the majority of this race to hit the loop 4 time cut-off, and then the final course cut-off. At just over 29 hours, I crossed the finish line, all choked up from the effort and finally seeing my family and friends. As an added bonus, I was in the “Golden Hour” where the Race Staff rallies for the final finishers. So cool – Proud to hold another 100M buckle!
